Paul Dodsworth Moortown Ring Road – Leeds

We appointed Redkite Construction following a leaflet through our door in response to our submitted planning application. We requested a budget estimate which was provided promptly and initiated a meeting to discuss the plans.

James was our main contact and we met up with him several times to define the scope of works. These initial meetings added value to our plans with James providing small sketch detail ideas for example with suggestions to improve the skylight, adjust a wall, provide a dropped canopy over the kitchen island and define the kitchen design etc.

Redkite works were for a single and double storey extension to the rear of our property which included Building Control drawings and liaison, all building works, Joinery, Mechanical and Electrical and some external works.

We were provided with a costed work breakdown schedule, Contract of works and construction programme. Construction began in early March 2018 and were complete in June which was a little behind schedule but we were kept informed on progress.

During the works it became apparent that the building Control drawings produced by the Architect could be improved. An example of this was the down stand beams which would result in a section of the kitchen ceiling being lowered. James met us on site with building control to discuss options. It was suggested to raise the height of the beam, change the hipped roof to a gable end and have a small step up to the Juliette balcony door. This worked well to maintain the ceiling height in the main kitchen/diner on the ground floor and maintain the ceiling height throughout we had envisaged.

As a client we made changes during the works, for example we decided to invest more on the kitchen fit out and electrical works. We also changed the manufacturer and type of sliding glass doors. To fund these changes we removed the fit out of the first floor ensuite and downstairs toilet which we planned to complete our self at a later date. We discussed this with James and agreed that Redkite would make these alterations to the contract and the fee reduced accordingly.

Any defects were rectified promptly each week to our satisfaction and well received by James.

We had hoped to build a large 4000-gallon ornamental feature koi pool which we felt made sense to coordinate with mini diggers already on site during foundation works. Redkite completed this additional large excavation to our exacting requirements at a reasonable additional fee.

In terms of workforce Redkite Construction have an array of different trades all of which we found to be friendly and helpful. Most notable was Chris who is a long serving member of the team and a real grafter. He did an excellent job of many aspects of the general building works and is particularly skilled at rendering, so much so that our neighbour decided to employ Chris to complete some additional rendering work  which he was happy to carry out. To ensure continued progress Chris occasionally worked on Sundays and bank holidays and we felt he really cared that we were happy with things.

We will be getting Redkite Construction back to complete our block paving at the front and some further building work in the future.

We used Red Kite to build a two-storey side extension to our three-bed semi earlier this year. This involved two double bedrooms upstairs and conversion of the existing third bedroom into an ensuite. Downstairs we have a large open plan kitchen/living/dining area which is fantastic.

We came across the company after submitting plans to the council which resulted in a flurry of letters from various builders offering their services. We already had three builders recommended to us by friends and decided to get a few other quotes for comparison.

The guys impressed us right from the start. They communicated well, was knowledgeable and their quote arrived promptly and was extremely detailed and comprehensive. His price was also competitive.

We decided to go with Red Kite over the recommended builders and were not disappointed. Work started on time, progressed very quickly and was completed on budget. Red Kite was onsite virtually every day and was always contactable by phone or email if I needed to discuss something after getting home from work. Inevitably with any major building work, there will be problems along the way. We had a few minor issues but Red Kite always ensured these were sorted out quickly.

I would not hesitate to recommend Red Kite Construction.

They are highly organised, honest and reliable. In fact, they have already done work for some friends of ours and are currently working on an extension for our next door neighbours!

The Red Kite team have recently undertaken extensive works in our house, including knocking through 3 rooms to make a new kitchen living space, supplying and fitting a new bathroom, re-rendering the entire house, a new drive and external works.

The work has been completed to a high standard and the guys have been very accommodating to our changing demands. They show a real desire to deliver a home we will be happy with and has dealt with any problems (which always occur with any build) quickly and efficiently.

I would recommend this team to anyone considering having similar work done.
